Ace Your 107
UA.II.B.K1

Under § 107.51, how far must a small UA remain from clouds?

Why: 14 CFR 107.51(d): the minimum distance from clouds must be no less than 500 feet below the cloud and 2,000 feet horizontally from the cloud.

  • Applies the manned-aircraft Class G basic VFR cloud clearance figure (1,000 feet below) rather than the Part 107 sUAS-specific minimum of 500 feet below set in § 107.51(d).
  • Understates the horizontal distance; § 107.51(d) requires 2,000 feet horizontally, not 500 feet.
