A small UAS manufacturer requires certain maintenance tasks to be performed by specified personnel. Those personnel are unable to repair a damaged component back to its safe operational specification. According to AC 107-2A, what should the operator do?
Why: AC 107-2A states: "If the operator or other maintenance personnel are unable to repair, modify, or overhaul a small UAS or component back to its safe operational specification, the operator should replace the small UAS or component with one that is in a condition for safe operation." Maintenance should otherwise occur in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions or specified personnel when required.
The AC describes no altitude-based workaround for operating with an uncorrected, unsafe component — all required maintenance should be completed before each flight.
The AC does not describe a self-certification shortcut for repairs that fall outside safe operational specification; the guidance is to replace the aircraft or component, not to log around the problem.
