Per AC 107-2A § 5.17.1, if a remote identification broadcast module is moved from one small unmanned aircraft to another, what must also happen before the next operation?

Why: AC 107-2A § 5.17.1, p. 5-14, states that a remote identification broadcast module's serial number may be listed on only one Certificate of Aircraft Registration at a time; if the module is moved to another aircraft, the serial number must also be moved from the first aircraft's certificate to the second aircraft's certificate prior to operation.

  • Moving a module between aircraft does not require a new declaration-of-compliance submission; that is a one-time producer-level filing under § 89.530, not a per-move requirement for the end user.
  • This gets the rule backwards: a module's serial number must be listed on the Certificate of Registration of whichever aircraft it is currently installed on, so the listing must move with the module, not stay fixed.
