Figure 15 — Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAF) · FAA-CT-8080-2H, p. 2-15

Figure 15 shows a TAF for Memphis beginning: KMEM 121720Z 1218/1324 20012KT 5SM HZ BKN030... When does this TAF's forecast period begin and end?

Why: The Remote Pilot Study Guide's TAF valid-period rule reads the group as day-then-hour on each side of the slash, always in UTC, with "24" annotating midnight UTC at the end of the stated day — so 1218/1324 runs from the 12th at 1800Z through midnight UTC on the 13th.

  • Reads the UTC ("Z") times as local time; TAF valid periods, like all the time groups in a TAF, are always given in coordinated universal time.
  • Reverses the day and hour digits, reading hour-then-day instead of day-then-hour, which the study guide's own worked example (0900/0924) shows is backwards.
