Figure 15 — Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAF) · FAA-CT-8080-2H, p. 2-15

The KOKC TAF in Figure 15 includes "TEMPO 0513/0516 1 1/2SM BR" and, later, "BECMG 0522/0524 20013G20KT 4SM SHRA OVC020." What is the difference between these two change groups?

Why: The Remote Pilot Study Guide's forecast-change-group rule distinguishes "FM" (a rapid, significant change) from "TEMPO," used for temporary fluctuations expected to last less than an hour at a time within the stated window; "BECMG" marks a gradual change becoming established over its stated window. Applied here, TEMPO describes brief dips to 1.5SM in mist, while BECMG describes the airport's conditions settling into wind, visibility, and sky changes by 2400Z.

  • Collapses two distinct FAA-defined change-group terms into one, when the study guide gives them separate definitions and separate expected durations.
  • Invents meanings unrelated to weather forecasting for both abbreviations; neither TEMPO nor BECMG says anything about the TAF being suspended or the airport closing.
