Refer to the current Denver sectional excerpt. Van Slyke Fld, a private airstrip south of Bennett, is charted with the data block "5400 - 25." What is Van Slyke Fld's field elevation?

Why: This chart's own "Additional Airport Information" legend defines the airport data block: the first number is field elevation in feet, and the number after the dash is the length of the longest runway in hundreds of feet. For Van Slyke Fld, "5400 - 25" means a field elevation of 5,400 feet and a runway length of 2,500 feet (25 hundreds).

  • 2,500 feet is the runway length reading (the "25" after the dash, in hundreds of feet), not the field elevation, which is the number before the dash.
  • Misreads "25" as a raw elevation in feet rather than hundreds of feet of runway length — the chart's own legend specifies runway length is given in hundreds of feet, not feet.
