Figure 24 — Sectional Chart Excerpt · FAA-CT-8080-2H, p. 2-23

Figure 24 shows an obstruction near Klondike marked "935" over "(425)" next to the obstruction symbol. What does the "(425)" represent?

Why: FAA-CT-8080-2H Legend 1 shows the obstruction-height format directly: the number without parentheses is the "Elevation of the top above mean sea level," and the parenthetical number is the "Height above ground" — so (425) is 425 feet AGL, and 935 is the top's MSL elevation.

  • Invents a distance meaning for the parenthetical number; obstruction data blocks show height figures only, not a distance to an airport.
  • Swaps which number is MSL and which is AGL — the unparenthesized number (935) is the MSL elevation, and the parenthetical number (425) is the AGL height, not the reverse.
